the only problem? its entrance is just a big hole in the wall.
introducing hidden doors
i considered building one myself but let's be honest: not enough skills. plus the key differentiator between doors and hidden doors is that the hinges have to be very strong to prevent sagging. so i found one we liked on Hideaway Doors and pulled the trigger - $2,329.47. ouch!
there were cheaper options but we wanted book shelf features, wine rack features, specific species of wood (cedar, poplar) to match our basement wall and trim, and of course 8 foot height.
apparently i failed to take pics of the install, but as you can see above the top door trim that came with the kit was too narrow, leaving a gap. so i went to Home Depot and picked up another piece of trim, cutting it down to fit.
after getting the door on it was time to add shelves, cabinet doors, and the wine rack.
with assembly complete we stained everything and called it good. later we added more wine, books, and a large popcorn machine to this nook.
